The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in year 1969, the Gandhi Centenary year and it has been started in the College both in +2 & +3 level to undertake projects of permanent value as symbol of the contribution of the students community to the progress and upliftment of the nation. The cardinal principle of the program is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sence of involvement in the task of national development. It was set up with a view to develop healthy contacts between the students and the teachers on the one hand and establishing a constructive linkage between the campus and the community.
Objectives :
  1. The primary aim of the scheme is to enable the students to upgrade their personality and experience through community service.
  2. To understand the community which they work.
  3. To understand themselves in relations to their community.
  4. To identify the needs and problems in the community.
  5. To develop among themselves a sense to civic and social responsibility.
  6. To apply their education in volving social problems.
  7. To development competence required for ground living and sharing responsibilities.
  8. To gain skills in mobilising community participation.
  9. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  10. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  11. To Practise National Integration.

Enrolment is open to all students who are physically fit and dedicative to social service before 30th September each year. A student enrolled in N.C.C. is not allowed to join N.S.S. There are two N.S.S. Units for Males only each consisting of 50 volunteers in this College. Volunteers are selected after proper scrutiny and their proficiency in the field of music, drama, dance and literary activities is taken into consideration. Camps:

There are three types of camps in N.S.S. (1) Regular (2) Special Camps (3) national Integration Camps. Regular Camps
(mini camps) are undertaken during week ends or holidays etc. Depending on local needs and priorities, two special camps are conducted during two major vacations such as Summer vacation and ‘X’ Mass holidays or Puja vacation for 10 days in an Adopted Village. Dedicated volunteers are sent to different States to attend National Integration Camps.

• Health, Family Welfare and Nutrition Programmes
• Production Oriented Programmes.
• Social Service Programmes.
• Preserving Environments free from pollution.
• Other Programmes undertaken depending on local needs
and priorities.
Prospects :
A volunteer who will complete 240 hours of regular N.S.S. Programmes in two years is entitled to get a certificate from the
concerned University.

A volunteer can attend the Inter-College and Inter-State N.S.S. Camps and National Integration Camps.

An outstanding N.S.S. Volunteer can go abroad. To priority is given to the N.S.S. volunteers, employment. An outstanding volunteer may be appointed as a N.S.V. (National Service Volunteer) with a stipend of Rs. 600/- per month for two years of till he/she attains the age of 25. Various Awards like National Youth Award and Prakruti Mitra Award is given to the volunteers for their outstanding activities in the field of literacy and plantation respectively.
